“A Journey Through Time: From Düsseldorf to the Enchanting Schloss Dyck”

Escape the hustle and bustle of Düsseldorf and embark on a day trip to the magnificent Schloss Dyck, one of Germany's most beautiful moated castles. This excursion offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and explore a historic hidden gem.

Our comfortable coach will transport you from Düsseldorf through the picturesque countryside of the Lower Rhine. As we travel, our knowledgeable guide will share fascinating stories about the history of the castle and the influential Counts of Dyck.

Upon arrival you will be greeted by the impressive sight of Schloss Dyck, surrounded by its expansive park. The castle's imposing facade and the surrounding gardens offer a glimpse into the grandeur that awaits you inside.

The history of Schloss Dyck dates to 1094 when it was a simple fortification. It became a moated castle in the 14th century and was owned by the Salm-Reifferscheid family for over 900 years. In 1999, it was transformed into a centre for garden art and landscape design.

A guided tour will take you the castle complex, consisting of four islands, including the main building, courtyards, outbuildings, and stables. It has undergone various architectural styles throughout its history, including Baroque and Rococo. Learn about the lives of the Counts of Dyck and the castle's evolution over centuries. While some treasures like the library and armory have been sold, the castle remains beautifully preserved. Surrounded by an English landscape garden, Schloss Dyck offers visitors a glimpse into the past and a peaceful retreat.

After the tour, you will have ample time to explore the castle's extensive park. Designed in the spirit of the Enlightenment between 1820 and 1835, the park at Schloss Dyck is a testament to the passion of Prince Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck for botany. The Scottish landscape architect Thomas Blaikie brought the prince's vision to life, creating a botanical paradise. Today, visitors can explore this meticulously restored landscape, admiring its diverse collection of rare trees and shrubs, including giant redwoods, dawn redwoods, and Korean poplars, while enjoying the serene atmosphere created by the interplay of nature and architecture.

This day trip offers a unique blend of history, culture, and nature. Immerse yourself in the rich history of Schloss Dyck, admire the architectural beauty of the castle and gardens, and enjoy the tranquility of the park.
