The High Fens, a transboundary upland area straddling Belgium and Germany, has been a protected nature reserve since 1957. Renowned for its unique subalpine climate and extensive raised bogs, the region is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, including rare species like the black grouse and sundew. Its unique ecosystem, shaped by millennia of geological processes and climatic changes, has made it a focal point for conservation efforts.
